Danielle Gasparro & Jamie Leonhart
*Special Double Bill Performance*
As a refreshing change of pace from the traditional double bill format, where each artist performs their own material separately, Danielle and Jamie will intermingle their tunes and collaborate on each other's original music for two sets of sonic goodness. It's destined to be a wonderful evening, filled with memorable music, luscious harmonizing and perhaps a few cameo appearances.

Danielle Gasparro
DANIELLE GASPARRO does not sing a word she doesn't mean. With a modern sound and style that blends jazz, soul and pop, she somehow reminds us of Ella and Louis, Bob Dylan and Janice Joplin, all at the same time. Perhaps it's because, like those meaningful artists, Danielle presents us with her thoughts and emotions while soulfully, and joyfully, embodying the music she sings. Through her deeply expressive voice, she intoxicates the listener with an inspiring legion of
"truth-infested" songs - dynamic vignettes that undeniably reflect a passionate, uncompromising journey, both musically and personally. "What a voice.
I swear you could just listen to it for hours and hours." -Jim Oxley, PulseRated.com

Jamie Leonhart
JAMIE LEONHART writes and sings dreamy, moody, sometimes frustrated, but mostly hopeful songs that
have vitriol, heart and humor.  Her music has been described as "sophisticated, deeply soulful and
intelligent," with "smart world-weariness/wariness." Paul Freeman, of the East Bay Daily News, writes, "New York's pop/jazz singer extraordinaire Jamie Leonhart entrances with a silky, soulful elegance. Her original numbers are beautifully crafted, offering intoxicating melodies and involving lyrics… She transforms the Muppets' "Rainbow Connection" into a cabaret tune that's simultaneously lovely and intriguingly off-kilter, with its darkly carnival-like organ."

Thomas Channell
New York-based singer-songwriter Thomas Channell was born in Sydney, Australia, but grew up in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Somewhat of a nerd, he has a Bachelor of Music Honours degree from Stellenbosch University and an MA from Columbia University, where he studied on a Fulbright Fellowship. So like, what kind of like music do you play? Just imagine Sade and Kurt Vonnegut's lovechild was adopted by Rufus Wainwright and k.d. lang, with Herbert von Karajan as his Godfather. Differently put: It's sincere, timeless, music from the soul baby, mellow, inspiring, thought-provoking, words that read like a novel, bitter sweet lyrics...Nuf said. Thomas has performed at all the major arts festivals in South Africa, as well as venues in Berlin, New York and Mexico City. His first album "Crowded Sunrise" was released to critical acclaim in South Africa in 2004 and he has been building up a kick-ass following in New York, regularly playing at venues including the legendary CBGB's, Cornelia Street Café, The Knitting Factory, Lincoln Center, The Living Room, Mo Pitkin's House of Satisfaction, The King Kong Room (@The Supper Club), and R&R Bar. Thomas is considered part of the furniture at Caffe Vivaldi.

After performing and recording for over 10 years with a wide variety of bands and artists from jazz giant Benny Carter to quirky rockers Ween, Kate recorded her first solo album, “Release.” Maureen Keller of
indie-music.com described the album by saying, “The lyrics are inspiring, the voice is one-of-a-kind, and the overall sound is as beautiful as music gets. It is evident that Evans loves music as she pours her heart into
these inspiring songs.”

Kate grew up in rural Kansas. Her parents were a classical musician and a bluegrass guitarist who exposed her to a wide range of music: gospel,
soul, jazz, country, folk, rock, and classical. Today, after nearly two decades as a performing musician, all of these influences are evident in her music. Check it out at www.kateweb.com.

7:30-9:00pm KLAZYC Trio
Mike Block - cello
Christian Howes - violin
Federico Lechner - piano and arranger

The trio will perform improvisation-based arrangements of classical themes by Bach, Mozart, Granados, Ravel, Szymanowski, Paganini, and others. Many classical-jazz crossover projects lean too far one way into jazz or classical- The balance of this project lies in the fact that 1)the performers are grounded equally in classical and jazz, and 2) The arrangements, most of which are crafted by Federico Lechner, frequently allow improvisations to occur in the style of the composers. Rather than "copy and pasting" jazz onto classical themes, the performers are engaging often in "classical improvisation", while informed by a jazz sensibility when needed.
This performance celebrates the U.S. visit of Madrid-based pianist, composer Federico Lechner. Lechner and Howes have collaborated on 4 album projects and several tours of Spain, as well as a tour of the U.S. in 2003. Lechner was a recipient of Spain's prestigious national award in composition, in 2006.

Sky is one of the most original, prolific and creative musicians to emerge from Vivaldi's Open Microphone Night.

His lyrics deal with the harsh reality of the city he lives in - New York.  One of his most popular and memorable special shows this year - where he touched on a raw nerve of "Life in the City" - was the " Anti Valentine's Day Show".  It was dedicated to all those romantics who feel that the city lifestyle has robbed them of opportunities for nurturing real love and meaningful relationships.

He is a regular at Vivaldi, packing the venue every time he performs.

It's like that, anyway, if the parties you go to are populated by singers with achingly clear voices and a gift for offbeat, haunting lyrics.  --J.W. Mason
